Federal Government Technology Trends for 2017 and Beyond

Technology evolves constantly and at a break-neck pace. New technologies that can disrupt the status quo and revolutionize the way a government agency or organization operates are constantly being invented and adopted in offices and workplaces.

The federal government is constantly looking to embrace these technologies to help improve operational efficiency and to ensure sustained, measurable progress on ongoing projects – some of which extend for jay-1016multiple years. Agencies in the midst of complex, long-term projects find it necessary to implement technologies to drive progress and ensure effective completion of multi-year programs.

To learn about some examples of successful efforts utilizing these innovative technologies in a federal agency setting, Federal Technology Insider (FTI) sat down with Jay McCargo, President and CEO of ARServices.

During their discussion, Mr. McCargo highlighted client work that ARServices accomplished for the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), including IT asset management in the continental United States (CONUS) and expanded into global locations (OCONUS). He also shared some predictions about new and existing technologies that federal agencies are likely to embrace, and IT trends that he expects to see continue in 2017 and beyond.

According to Mr. McCargo, “Some of the trends I see continuing are new and expanding uses of proven tools.” Examples he shared included BMC Remedy and Microsoft SharePoint. “Those are tools that, over the last decade, have become widely used and spread across the government,” he said. By implementing and expanding the use of these and other technologies and moving away from cumbersome, custom software solutions, federal agencies can significantly reduce development costs.
